October 27–31, 2025: Nationwide Campaign – Kickoff Gambella

The Financial Literacy Week 2025, organized by the National Bank of Ethiopia(NBE) in collaboration with NEWFin, UNCDF, regional governments, and financial institutions, is guided by the theme “Fostering Financial Literacy and Strengthening Consumer Protection.” As part of the National Financial Education Strategy, the initiative aims to enhance the financial well-being of Ethiopian adults and expand access to financial services nationwide.
This year’s campaign focuses on mobile money literacy and consumer protection, targeting three million adults—half of whom are women—through community workshops, roadshow campaigns, youth development programs, media outreach, and account-opening drives at financial institutions.
By engaging diverse communities and promoting consumer awareness, FLW 2025 seeks to strengthen financial inclusion, build consumer trust, and contribute to Ethiopia’s Vision 2030 financial inclusion goals.
Gambella region was selected as the launch site for Financial Literacy Week because it serves as a vital regional hub linking both urban and rural communities. While the city is experiencing steady economic growth, many residents—especially those in surrounding rural areas with limited financial literacy —still face barriers to accessing financial services and reliable financial information.
Promoting rural financial education is a key priority under the National Financial Education Strategy. This makes Gambella an ideal starting point for expanding financial awareness, strengthening inclusion, and empowering communities to make informed financial decisions.
